Bass Fishing Report; Waconia; August 27, 2006

Got on Waconia lake Sunday morning at about 7:00, weather was beautiful.....low 70's, very low wind and sunny skies.  Knowing there was a decent size tournament on the lake the previous day, I figured the bite would be a little tougher than normal. I planned on getting a deeper bite going, but I immediately became side tracked by he first pocket of reeds and slop I drove by.  There isn't a place I rather catch a bass then in the thick shallow cover....unfortunately my passion for fishing the slop got the best of me on this morning. I fished the reeds and adjacent slop for about two hours, a Spro frog and tube did produce a few fish in the 13 to 14 inch range.  Not enough quantity or quality to spend anymore time with this pattern, I decided to finally get to my original plan.

I found a nice milfoil patch in the 9-13' depth range.  This particular patch is extremely large, with the high sky and warming conditions I spent time making quick pitches with a jig n' pig while motoring to the thickest patches I could fine, looking for patches with a surface mat.   Once I found a few of these patches I slowed down, the first thick patch I came to immediately produce a nice fat 16.5 inch fish.  Not a trophy, but a very healthy fish....the bite in the foil stayed consistent until about noon.  All the fish where caught with a black/blue 1/2 jig with a blue trailer. Producing a number of 2-3 lb fish.  No real hawgs, but a number of good bites.

Before I went in I decided to pitch a set of docks leading to a point, the docks also produced some fish, again - no trophies, I did see about a 19' bass under one pontoon - I tried about 4 different presentations, could not get him to cooperate.  Ended my day at about 12:30 - 12:45.  Looking back, I should have stuck with my original plan of fished mid-range weedlines and deeper vegetation.  All and all it was a beautiful day on Waconia lake, and enough action to keep me satisfied.
