Bass Fishing Report; Mississippi River Pool 9; July 12 thru 15, 2006
The pool seems to be rising one day falling the next in about a 6 inch variance. When the water is falling there are two very productive patterns, which allowed myself to boat up to 15 solid keepers per day.
Fish the outside weedlines with a chartreuse and white
Brovarney Swim Jig with a 5 inch pearl Zoom Fat Albert trailer. Fishing
the bait slow was the key for my bite, letting it get down three feet or
more in five to seven feet of water. When making contact with the deeper
grass aggressively stroke the jig The second productive pattern was to concentrate on laydowns and cut banks (both on outer channel swings) The stronger the current the better with my bait of choice being a brown All Terrain Flipping Jig tipped with a green pumpkin paca chunk but plastics also work well. Fish
were also caught on Lunker Lure Buzz Baits during mid day in 4 feet of
water.. When the pool is rising or stable the bite became very tough
for myself but slowing down and fishing shallower did produce some fish
good fish. The above patterns were good for tenth place in the Stren
Series. |
