Bass Fishing Report; Mississippi River Pool 9; April 29, 2006

I was out on pool 9 for a tournament and managed to catch a limit of largemouth for 11lbs. The biggest fish weighing in at just over 3lbs. Water depths were around 9.4ft and dropping with temps around 66 degrees in the area I was fishing. Threw mostly a Brovarney swim jig (BC Gil), but also used War Eagle green shad spinnerbaits on wood in current. I had to work at catching a limit as the fish were scattered. Water clarity and areas with bait fish were very important as they only seemed to be in the clear water areas of the lake where you could see bait fish. Biggest smallmouth came out of the power plant in Lansing , weighing in at 3.5+. The overall big fish (largemouth) was caught at the top end of Minnesota slough, which weighed in at 3.94lbs...fishing the same pattern.

Brovarney's BC Gil

This jig worked well and was able to get through the weeds without ANY problems. The fish were just killing this bait. I used a Cotton Candy colored 5" mag grub from Brovarney baits. That combination matched the forage in the areas I fished really well.
