Bass Fishing Report; Mississippi River Pool 8; June 18, 2006

I took my Dad out on pool 8 and had a great time! Overcast skies seemed to be the key early on as the fish were absolutely hammering swim jigs in the pads. I was throwing a Brovarney electric blue jig with blue grub...we caught 8 fish right away in a certain section of pads off deep water. After that, my Dad said he thought BASS fishing was too easy...after that, they turned off. I turned to him and said, "Now THIS is BASS fishing!" and laughed.

The sun finally came out around 1pm and a strong wind picked up from the SW. Water temps were around 77 degrees throughout most of the day. The pad bite was getting very sporadic with the high sun, so I thought we'd target some different water. I found some deeper water 4-5ft with submerged weeds that were just visible. The water was slightly stained, but not too bad. We started casting gold/white/black spinnerbaits and were catching some real nice fish, biggest being 3.9lbs (on a cheap Rapala scale). Overall the day went really well, catching four over three and around a dozen more over 2lbs.
I was certainly more than happy to treat my Dad to a great time on the water!
