Bass Fishing Report; Mississippi River Pool 8; May 10, 2006

I was out for about three hours last night and we managed to find some largemouth on some current breaks (backside) and points with deep drops. The water temp was 64 degrees in most of the backwater areas we were in but the main channel still isn't quite 60. We did manage to catch some fish in dirty water, but found them more "consistent" in cleaner water. Plastics seemed to be the key to the bigger ones, but some were caught on reaction baits (spinnerbaits, jigs, cranks) as well. Most of the fish (80%) that were caught were already spawned out. Smallmouth (males) were still found on beds as well. Most club members caught their bigger ones towards dusk, just before check-in.

Here was the winning bag--smallies. These guys actually went to a spot looking just to catch some dinks, and they ended up catching like 6 decent keepers....Throwing plastics was the ticket for these.
