Bass Fishing Report: Mississippi River Pool 5, 10/13/2007

After a month of being off the water I finally got back out.

Began the day chasing smallmouth on the main channel, but due to the high flow and muddy water we were unsuccessful.  So we headed to the backwaters to go after some feeding largemouth.  Our best luck came in areas that had vegetation with slight to moderate current on it.  The smaller fish were sitting right on the vegetation edge, while the bigger fish were sitting in the deeper (3-5 ft.) water.  White 1/4 oz. spinnerbaits, chrome Rattletraps, white swim jigs and tubes is what worked well for us.  Majority of the bass were in the 15 to 17 inch range.
