Bass Fishing Report: Mississippi River Pool 5A – April 18th, 2008

Fished from 8:30-3:30 on Friday april 18th. Weather was a cool 42 degrees with wind up to 25 mph and rain all day. We fished a jettie on the lower end of the pool. Current was moderate and water temp was 43. There was a little weed about 3 feet from the rocks in 3 to 4 foot of water. I have caught many fish here befor but not today. We tried another spot about a mile away in a backwater slough. It was 45 degrees and calm water with little wind. We fished 20 foot of water hoping they were still holding in wintering hole but no luck. We tried the wood close to deep water and seen a lot of panfish movement but still no takers. We moved from ther to the Merrick park backwaters and started fishing the wood and shallow flats, water temp was 45 degrees and the rain just would not let up. Lots of carp in the shallows but no bass feeding yet. It was nice to get out and fish. Still alot of debri coming down the river so we satyed away from main river wingdams. A couple of days of warm weather and sun and fishing will turn on. Hope the best to all and see you on the water. Brian Beebe
