Bass Fishing Report: Mississippi River Pool 4 – May 11th, 2007

Main Channel Water Temp 62.5 Degrees
Backwater as high as 71.2 degrees
Flow 45,200 CFS

I was pre-fishing for the Bassmaster Weekend Series tournament. There were bass boats EVERYWHERE!

I threw primarily a Brovarney swim jig and covered a lot of water. I did find some active spawning female largemouth in the back side of Peterson Lake – they were spawning near prop wash areas where boat docks had not yet been put back in the water. I shook off 2 fish that were well over 4 lbs but I had an audience that I was unaware of that promptly waypointed me.

The cut bank in Indian slough was holding good fish. The smallmouth bite was incredible on pool 4 and I felt that many people would bring in a limit of fish, so for quality purposes I would fish pool 5 for the tournament.
