Bass Fishing Report: Mississippi River Pool 4 - April 29, 2006

River Stage 9.01 - Flow 54,200 cfs

I had a tournament from 8am to 4pm. Air temperature was 49 degrees at take off and it rained all day. Fishing was tough and a variety of patterns seem to net at least some fish. I finished in 3rd place with largemouth, swimming a 3/8 ounce Brovarney jig. The 1/4 ounce jig was a bit light as the keepers I caught were in HEAVY flow on rock, tight to the rock but right next to 10 feet of water. First and second place came from backwater with a shaky head and a 4" worm. First through 5th place were all largemouth. I caught several smallmouth in heavy flow on shallow sand inlets but none made 14".  Hind site is always 20/20 but I should have played the finesse card more myself and downsized. It simply just never warmed up. All the largemouth were caught close to expansive flats but more in more of a summer pattern
