I had a tough time today on the pool 12 of the
Mississippi River . The river conditions were poor, due a great deal to
the holiday weekend. While I found grass and lily pads coming up I only
found this in very shallow areas. These areas were full of carp and gar.
They had the bottom churned up and the water very muddy. At the same
time many of my regular spots had current in them too strong for bass
fishing to be very productive. I did find a few bass and these all were
caught on a green pumpkin candy colored Invader Jig from Strictly Bass
Lures. These fish were found on a rip-rap bank along the railroad tracks
but were only located where there was a stump of deadfall is lying on
the bank and the fish were holding very tight to the cover.
I heard reports that fishing was good in the slop on pool 13 in the
extreme lower end of the pool. It was stated that the fishing was great
on Saturday and many good fish were taken on a rat but today things had
changed greatly and it was tough which seems to agree with what I say on
pool 12.
