Mississippi River Pool 11, August 20, 2006,  10am to 3pm

The day was calm and partly cloudy and I found the river levels to be very low and the entrances to several backwater areas were not passable. Fishing was fair to tough. Water temp is in upper 70’s and muddy for the most part with a few clear areas to be found. I hope to find some active fish in the pad fields but all I found in the pads was a big nasty Gar which I didn’t really want in my boat but he wouldn’t let go.

Once I gave up on the pads I moved to main river grass and caught several bass. The biggest were all largemouth but there were several smallmouth mixed in as well. My biggest fish of the day was a 4lb-6oz lunker. This fish, as well as all of the other fish, came on a 7/16oz green pumpkin candy colored Invader Jig from Strictly Bass Lures and a YUM watermelon trailer.

Although, I had limited time on the water today, it appears the main pattern mush be main river. I caught them in grass but there may be some on wood as well but I did not give that a try. I am also fairly certain there are fish in the pads after talking to anglers on other pools but they will be concentrated in small areas with 95% of the pad field empty so one would need to cover area until they are found. I did not have the time as kids were getting impatient and I want them to like going with Dad.
