Bass
Fishing Report; Mississippi River Pool 10; July 1, 2006
The
past two weeks I have been able to spend eight days on the water, which
has been a blast. The weekend of August 20 I had the
Grant
County
4-man open. I began my pre-fishing on that Thursday and found the bite
to be somewhat difficult. This was largely based on the fact that it was
cold and raining. But despite the less than favorable conditions we
found fish hitting RC Tackle swim jigs in areas that had lily pads and
eel grass. These pads had anywhere from 1-4 feet of water on them.
Here is a picture of a solid keeper. This day was the first
chance to try out my new raingear from Gamehide. This stuff is awesome,
I was in the pouring rain for ten hours and came in dry!!
The
next day my brother and I checked some main channel spots in the morning
and quickly found that when you found the baitfish, the bass were
extremely active. We targeted these fish with a variety of top water
baits. After establishing
this pattern, we headed back to the backwaters. Again throwing swim jigs
and flipping tubes, we found fish in the pad fields. A large portion of
these fish were short or just barely keepers, my brother did get this
nice fish though.
Tournament
day came, as did the fog. We started the morning off throwing Chug bugs
and Gambler Baby Bacon Rinds on a sand point. We continued hitting main
channel spots and got a nice limit of smallies. The rest of the day we
focused on areas with sand and eel grass, using swim jigs, frogs and
plastics. The result was a
4th place finish and a 12 fish limit for 25 lb. Here is a picture of our
team.
