Bass Fishing Report; Mississippi River Pool 10; May 26-28, 2007
I spent
three days of the weekend on my home water of pool 10. On Saturday I
started off fishing wingdams and was surprised to find some keeper
largemouth hitting crankbaits. I then dragged a Carolina-rigged lizard
and hooked into this beautiful 18 inch smallie. Saturday
afternoon I was able to get my dad out fishing with me and I was able to
put him on some of the best fishing he has ever had and got him one of
his biggest bass. The pattern I had going from last weekend's tournament
was still in full swing, except some bigger fish had moved into the mix.
Locating points with pads and grass was what was holding the fish. Swimming jigs took the large majority of the bass, but I also did get my start to throwing frogs for the year. A Gambler Cane toad crawled slowly over the pads worked well. It was important to use a big gap hook that kept the toad in place, which is why I used an Eagle Claw 4/0 HP hook.
The fishing continues to be very good right now on pool 10. Every trip I made this weekend had me catching double digit numbers of bass, as well as pike, rock bass and crappies. |
