Bass Fishing Report; Le Homme Dieu Chain; May 28, 2006

Water Temp: 62-69
Air Temp: 80's
Sky's: Clear
Winds: SSE 15-25

The weather was hot, sunny and windy.  I think the strong SSE winds at 15-25 mph kept a lot of people off the water Sunday, as I did not encounter the boat traffic typical of the Alex Chain.  The morning air temps were in the mid 80's, and the wind was strong and steady.  The water temps varied greatly throughout the chain.  I encountered everything from low 60's in the larger, deeper parts of the chain, all the way up to the 68-69 degree water in some bays and shallow shorelines.  Water clarity was also very high in many parts of the chain, there were a few areas in the smaller lakes where the water was a little more cloudy (4-6 feet).

The fish seemed to be as scattered as the water temps, I had early success finding fish in scattered sandgrass and bulrushes in 5-10 feet of water.  Most fish were coming off spinnerbaits or plastics fished rapidly thru the weeds.  By mid morning there were fish coming off numerous different techniques, in numerous different depths.  My nicest fish of the day, a fat largemouth was taken in 10-12 feet of water off a jig.  It was obvious the the fish were in all three phases, there were a few that seemed to be pre-spawn fish, mostly spawners and post spawners though.  No matter what the stage the fish seemed to be in, the one constant was their relation to vegetation, whether it was bulrushes in 5 feet or early season cabbage and grass in deeper humps and turns.   I was off the water by Noon due to the scorching sun !! However it was a fun and productive day on the water.
