Bass Fishing Report; Lake Wisconsin, 9-15 & 9-16, 2007
By: Darin Roddick-Small

Conditions:
Air Temp: Mid 60’s
Water temps: 60-70 degrees
Water Clarity: Cloudy
Skies: Clear skies and light winds from the West

After a strong front dropped temperatures over 15 degrees, the fishing was as expected…. tough. I focused on parts of the lake where the water temps were in the mid 60’s and above. I found these areas in areas with deeper water near by. Other factors that I brought into play were some deeper weeds.

I started out by fishing cranks, trying to locate any active fish. This resulted in one small largemouth that came off right at the boat. It did however, get me into the areas that had fish that I concentrated on for the next couple of days. After not seeing much success with the cranks, I switched over to a finesse presentation. I worked the rest of my trip with two main presentations, a jig worm and a salty slings by Venom Lures, with most  fish coming on the jig worm. This was painfully slow fishing, but the results could not be argued. The best fish ended up being a 16 “ football shaped smallie. Not a bad fish by any means. An upside to the weekend is that I located a couple of new areas to fish that I had not worked before. Always a benefit to find little unseen jewels on busy water.

Good luck all and God Bless
