Bass Fishing Report; Lake Wisconsin, April 23, 2006

Well after a fast paced weekend of fishing, here is the scoop on what is happening out on Lake Wisconsin. I fished from Thursday April 20th through Sunday April 23rd. The High temperatures for those days remained constant at about 65 degrees. The wind blew from the North/Northwest all four days as well from 5-15 miles per hour and It was partly cloudy over that time, except for some scattered showers on Friday. The water temperature started out at about 55 degrees, and went up to the upper 50's by Sunday. Water temperature was dependent though on what part of the lake you were at.

Now for the important information. The fish were going crazy! I love this time of year. The males are up in the shallows and some of the females are moving in behind them. The males are more than willing to bite as well. By Sunday, I found a lot more males up in the shallows and it should only get better by next weekend.

Darrin and Savvy

I was fishing in about 2-4 foot of water most of the time in a shallow bay. I caught all of my fish in this bay on three baits. I am not going to mention the specific bay at this time due to the fact that there are two more tournaments on the lake over the next two weeks that I am hoping to fish, sorry, but I will give more details if you want to PM me. The three baits would include a Blue Devil Brovarney Baits swim jig tipped with a Junebug colored grub; a prototype round head finesse jig by Brovarney Baits; and a sweet beaver knock off Texas rigged.

With the swim jig, I was burning it trying to get reaction strikes. Most fish really slammed it. I was following people up all weekend that were throwing spinnerbaits and not catching the fish. After I worked the area with the swim jig, I would either follow it up with the beaver knock off, or the finesse jig. Either way, the results were great. I caught numbers of cookie cutter 2-2 1/2 pound fish with the biggest being just shy of four pounds. I expect these numbers to go up in this spot as the water temperatures continue to rise.

The other place I focused on this weekend were main lake rock ledges with deep water close by. By deep, I mean 15- 20 feet within 20 yards. There were three baits that worked well in these areas. They were; a jig worm, a glass fat rap and a X-rap. On Sunday, I had the most success on the jig worm, but I am sure that was a confidence thing.

All in all, it was great to be on the water for the weekend catching fish with friends in my new boat.
