Bass
Fishing Report; Chetek Chain; May 13, 2006 I launched at 6am in the rain and 44 degree weather. I ran from Chetek to some balck bottom bays on Ojaski and began throwing a Brovarney swim jig in a stump field on a flat. By 7am I had 6 fish that bumped but no females. I back out to a main lake point at the mouth of the bay and picked up 3 solid females in the 18" to 19" class. On my way out of Ojaski I fished the bridge between Ojaski and Pokegama and picked up 4 more males in the 15" range that fell for a drop-shot with a black/chartruese ring worm. I then decided to focus on points and deep wood the rest of the day because of the positioning o the females I caught earlier indicated that this was a pre-spawn pattern - and on a cold day in the warmest water on the chain if the females were staging on the first drop at the mouth of the bay I should be able to replicate that pattern. I fished 7 points in Pokegama with a Gil colored 7/8 ounce Brovarney jig and the occasional Carolina rig. I caught nothing but females on the points and all were quality fish. None over 3.5 lbs but none under 2.5 lbs, with the best point yielding 6 bass. I ran into Prairie Lake to fish a rock pile and a couple more points within 300 yards of the bridge and I found 1 point stacked with nice females. I fished the old bridge pilings on my way out of Prairie in 12' of water and caught a 20.5" LM on a drop-shot and 4 SM of which only one bumped. I was out of time by noon but the bite is hot - get out there if you get a chance!! |
