Bass Fishing Report; Patoka Lake ; 10/22, 2006

Weather: Mostly cloudy, 50 degrees, Northwest wind 20 mph
Water: Clear, 60 degrees, 4 ft above normal pool

I fished Patoka from noon until 4:00 pm.  The weather was nasty, so I figured the fishing might be decent.  I started out trying to get out of the wind and fish a buzzbait over some grass, but I never had a fish touch the buzzbait.  I threw a swim jig for a few minutes in the same area and caught a keeper.  I fished the jig for a while, but it turned out not to be as good as I hoped.  I finally decided to get out in the wind throw a spinnerbait.  I wound up catching 2 more keepers and three short fish on the spinnerbait.  I went back to the swim jig and caught 2 more short fish.  All of the keepers were 2 – 2 ½ lbs each.  The wind seemed to be the key.  I talked to one guy from Wisconsin who was practicing for the upcoming Bassmaster weekend tournament and he said he was catching fish the same way I was.  There should be some 15-20 lb bags of fish caught in that tournament, but it won’t be as good as it could be with the cold, unstable weather we have been having.
