Sunday
of Memorial Day weekend I fished the Cannelton Pool of the
Ohio River
. I stayed in a large creek
on the
Indiana
side all day. I was sort of
starting to practice for my next BFL in a few weeks, but mostly just
fishing. Like Patoka the day
before, if it were not for the topwater bite it would have been a really
tough day. I had 4 small
keepers and a few short fish on a pop-r from 9:00 until noon.
All of the fish were on shady banks with brush and logs along the
bank. In the afternoon, the
fish started feeding on schools of shad fry on the flats.
I caught one more keeper and 3 short fish on a shallow diving
crankbait around the schools of fry that were getting attacked.
My 5 keepers probably would have weighed 6-7 lbs.
Doesn’t sound very impressive, but there will be a lot of guys
fishing the BFL All-American next week that would love to have a 6 lb
limit each day of that tournament.
