Bass Fishing Report; Monroe Lake ; Aug 26, 2006

Weather:  Mostly cloudy, high around 90, light wind

Water:  The lake is about six inches below summer pool, main lake is clear, creeks stained, water temperature low  80’s

I fished the Hoosier Division BFL at Lake Monroe Saturday August 26.  There were 122 boats.  I started the day on the main lake fishing shallow weeds in about 4 feet of water.  The first place I stopped didn’t produce anything.  The second stop was also a shallow weed line.  I missed one blowup, then caught a keeper about 3 pounds on a buzzbait.  I stayed there a little longer, but no more bites.  I stopped at my first area again and still nothing.

I went to the idle zone and threw a shallow crankbait for a couple hours and just had 2 short fish.  I decided to go back to the main lake and fish the weeds the rest of the day.  The boat traffic had the water too choppy for a buzzbait, so I fished a texas rigged 10” worm for a while, but no fish.  I started throwing a lipless crankbait and caught 3 short fish.

With about an hour to go in the tournament, I went back to where I started the day.  This would be the third time I fished this patch of weeds, and I finally caught a fish out of it.  It was about 3 ½ lbs and it hit a chrome lipless crankbait.  I wound up with 2 fish that weighed 6 lbs 9 oz and finished 20th.  The winning boater had 4 fish that weighed 17 lbs 9 oz and the winning co-angler had 4 fish that weighed 8 lbs 9 oz.
