Bass Fishing Report; Kentucky and Barkley Lakes; 4/03/08 Kentucky Lake: Water Level at Ky Dam - 361.6 Surface Temperature - 55 Lake Barkley: Water Level at Barkley Dam - 361.55 Surface Temperature - 55 Both lakes are 2 and one half feet over summer pool. The lakes have dropped 1.5 ft over the past week but are now showing a slight rising trend for the next day or so. We are getting heavy rains today and heavy rains are forecasted for tonight and tomorrow. 2-4 inches of rain is forecasted over this period with some local areas receiving as much as 5 inches. Kentucky Lake is stained and Lake Barkley is heavily stained. With this amount of rain, Lake Barkley may muddy up again over the next few days. One needs to monitor the TVA website for lake conditions to how much this rain may affect the lake levels over the next few days. Largemouth Bass fishing continues to be very good as reported last week. Although most of the Crappie are still being reported to be holding in deeper water over brush, I did talk to a few folks this week that were starting to catch a number of Black Crappie in shallow water (3-6 ft) on spawning patterns. Largemouth Bass: Largemouth Bass are being taken on a number of patterns but the strongest pattern is the shallow bite. These shallow fish are being taken around and in front of the buck brush in the creeks and bays on spinnerbaits, lipless crankbaits, jigs, shaky head worms and Texas rigged lizards and creature baits. Largemouth are also being taken on lead in creek channel banks and secondary points on spinnerbaits, crankbaits, jigs and Texas rigged creature baits. The Largemouth bite has been very good over all. Smallmouth Bass: Smallmouth Bass are being taken on the main lake primary points and secondary points in the bays on crankbaits, jigs and tube jigs. These fish are scattered and the numbers of fish reported are few. I did have one report of a few Smallmouth being taken off beds in the front part of the bays on pea gravel banks on tube jigs and grubs. Some of the more productive lures reported this week were: Hook Some Bass spinnerbaits in blue glimmer and white, Strike King spinnerbaits in white, Zoom lizards in green pumpkin and watermelon/red, Zoom brush hogs and baby brush hogs in green pumpkin, watermelon/purple and watermelon/red, Hook Some Bass brush hounds and baby brush hounds in green pumpkin and watermelon/red, Lewis rattletraps in blue/chrome and black red, Strike King red eye shad in black/red and sexy shad, Hook Some Bass tubes in green pumpkin and road kill cammo and Last Cast Lures jigs in green pumpkin. Bluegill: Although I have not received any reports on the Bluegill, we are getting a lot of Bluegill bites on our soft plastics in shallow water near the brush and have even caught a few big ones on the lipless crankbaits so there seems to be plenty of Bluegill in and around the brush also. I have had a few calls from some of my clients from last month telling me that they had stopped by Jet-A-Marina for service while they were here because I had recommended them if they needed service on their boats. As usual the calls were very complimentary of the folks at Jet-A-Marina and especially the folks in the service department. If you are coming here to fish and have a problem with your boat, I highly recommend you check the folks out at Jet-A-Marina. Jet-A-Marina is located on U.S. 62 in Calvert City just a couple of miles north of Ky Dam. If you are in need of a bass guide for some fun bass fishing, tournament preparation, lake familiarization or technique instruction don't hesitate to give me a call for one of my open dates. If I am booked for the date you want, call me for a recommendation for another guide service. I have the following dates available for booking over the next few months: April: Sorry I am booked up May: Sorry I am booked up June: 1, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 21, 22, 24, 25, 28, 29, 30 Captain
