Bass
Fishing Report; Kentucky and Barkley Lakes; Sep. 7, 2006 Kentucky
Both
lakes are 3 ft below summer pool. A series of upper level lows
moving over the lakes area over the holiday weekend resulted in some
very good reports on the bass fishing. I received a number of
reports of good bass being taken over the weekend on a myriad of
patterns. Of course as is normal after low pressure comes
high pressure so the bass fishing for the past few days has been
somewhat slow. I would expect this to improve as we move toward to
the next weather system which is due here late this coming weekend.
The cooler fall like weather has continued in the area and the
cooler temperatures have dropped the water temperatures another 4
degrees since last Thursday. We are now in the water
temperature range that we normally start seeing the shad staging
near the mouths of the creeks and bays prior to moving into the shallow
water for the fall feed. If these water temperatures hold we
should see more and more fish being taken from around the mouths of the
bays over the next week. Largemouth
Bass: The Largemouth Bass are being taken on the ledges and
humps on the main lakes and also around the mouths of the deeper
bays. These fish are being taken on Smallmouth
Bass: The Smallmouth Bass are being taken on main lake river
ledges on Some
of the productive lures reported this week are: Lucky Craft Sammy
in ghost pearl lemon, Zoom horney toad in white, Yamamoto senko in
watermelon/red/green, Hook Some Bass tubes in chameleon craw, Zoom magnum
lizards in green pumpkin. Note:
We are rapidly approaching the transition time for the fish to
transition from summer patterns to fall patterns. How fast and
soon this will happen will depend on water temperatures. Water
temperatures right now are a little below normal for this time of
September...if the water temperatures keep dropping we will see and
early fall bite...if they go back up the transition period will most
likely extend to around the end of the month. During the
transition period bass fishing normally gets tough for a week or
so...the savvy bass angler needs to monitor the water temperature
changes daily and adjust locations from shallow to deep as needed.
Later
this month we will start seeing a lot of big end of year bass
tournaments here on the lakes. I would like to welcome all of you
folks coming to fish our lakes. I am sure you will find a lot of
good If
you are in need of a guide for some fun bass fishing, tournament
preparation, lake familiarization or technique instruction don't
hesitate to give me a call or drop me an email. You should be
making your reservations now for the fall fishing. October and
November can provide some of the best bass fishing of the year here on
Ky/Barkley. I
have the following dates available for booking in October: Oct:
7, 12, 13, 14, 22, 24, 27, 29, 30, 31 I
