Bass
Fishing Report; Kentucky and Barkley Lakes; 9/6/2007
Both
lakes are 2.5 feet below summer pool and on a slow drop toward winter
pool. Expect the lakes to be leveled off again sometime this next
week around 3 ft below summer pool. The lakes are right on
schedule for the winter drawdown. We actually had a rainy day here
in the lakes area today. This is the first time I have fished in
the rain here since back in late June or early July...too long ago to
remember. The water temperatures have dropped another 2 degrees
here since last week's report. No doubt, we are headed in the
right direction. The Largemouth Bass bite has still been spotty
this week but there seems to be a little more activity on the shallow
fish. The ledges are still pretty slow. With the dropping
water temperatures and influx of fresh water from the rains today we
should start seeing a better bite soon, especially on staging fish
around the mouths of the creeks and bays and on the shallow that are
feeding on late fry schools. Largemouth
Bass: The Largemouth Bass are being taken on the humps and ledges
around the mouths of the creeks and bays but the ledge bite was
slow this week. The fish that were caught were taken on Smallmouth
Bass: The Smallmouth Bass bite has been slow for the most part but
some fish are being taken on the main lake points and first secondary
points in the bays on tube jigs and finesse jigs. Some
of the productive lures reported this week are: Lucky Craft Sammy
in ghost pearl lemon, Yozuri Pop n Splash in ghost lemon, Hart buzzbaits
in white, Hook Some Bass spinnerbaits in blue glimmer, Hook Some Bass
baby brush hounds in watermelon/purple, Hook Some Bass tubes in
chameleon craw and smoke/purple, Yamamoto senko in smoke/black, Berkley
shaky head worms in green pumpkin and red shad and Last Cast finesse
jigs in green pumpkin and peanut butter jelly with matching baby paca
craw trailers. If
you are in need of a bass guide for some fun bass fishing, tournament
preparation, lake familiarization or technique instruction don't
hesitate to give me a call or drop me an email. I have the
following dates available for booking: September:
23, 24, 25 October:
8, 10, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21 November: I have plenty of openings in November. November is a great time to be bass fishing here on the big lakes. Captain.
