Bass
Fishing Report; Kentucky and Barkley Lakes; 7/27/2007
Both
lakes are two feet below summer pool. We had a very pleasant week
weather wise with daytime temperatures in the high 80's and night
temperatures in the 60's. The cooler weather dropped the water
temperatures a couple of degrees earlier in the week and the bass bite
picked up noticeably. I encountered number of schooling
Largemouth this week feeding on schools of fry. Largemouth
Bass: Largemouth are being taken on the ledges on the main lake
and around the mouths of the bays on deep diving crankbaits, Smallmouth
Bass: Smallmouth Bass as slow on the main lake ledges using Some
of the more productive lures this week were: Yozuri Pop N Splash
in ghost lemon, Hook Some Bass Vibe in white, Hook Some Bass spinnerbait
in blue glimmer, Zoom ol monster worm in plum, Charmer worm in blue
fire, Last Cast jig in green pumpkin with baby paca craw trailer, Hook
Some Bass brush hound in watermelon/purple and watermelon/red. White
Bass: White Bass are being taken along the old river channel
ledges and adjacent flats. These fish are being taken on inline
spinners and small spoons fished vertically. I have noticed some
Whites in jumps this week but they are short in duration. Catfish:
Catfish are being taken along the old river channels on bottom rigs
baited with shrimp and leeches. Some Catfish are shallow as I have
caught a number of nice Channel Catfish on bass lures this week while
fishing the flats in the bays. These Catfish are feeding on the
schools of fry still in the bays. Bluegill:
Bluegill are being taken around deeper docks on worms and crickets
fished under bobbers. Bluegill are also being taken early and late
in the day around mayfly hatches using the same baits. If
you are in need of a guide for some fun Bass fishing, tournament
preparation, lake familiarization or technique instruction don't
hesitate to give me a call or drop me an email. I have had a good
time lately teaching a lot of folks how to eliminate water to find bass
and also how to find and fish the ledges. This is a good time of
year to do both. If you have not made your reservations for your
fall fishing trips you should do so very soon or you may not get the
date(s) you want. I
have the following dates available for booking in August, September and
October: August:
2, 5, 6, 11, 15, 18, 19, 20, 22, 23, 24, 26, 27, 30, 31 September:
4, 5, 8, 9, 10, 11, 13, 19, 21, 23, 24, 25, 27, 28, 29, 30 October:
