Bass Fishing Report; Kentucky and Barkley Lakes; 5/31/2007
Bass Buster Guide Service

Kentucky Lake :
Water level at Ky Dam - 358.50  Surface Temperature - 77

Lake Barkley :
Water level at Barkley Dam - 358.70  Surface Temperature - 79

Both lakes are one half foot below summer pool with little fluctuation.  Temperatures in the high 80's to low 90's is in the forecast for the weekend with southerly winds.  Isolated Thunderstorms are in the forecast for the afternoon hours so keep an eye on the south and western skies and be ready to find cover if one of those nasty afternoon summer storms pops up while you are on the water.

Largemouth Bass:  The Largemouth Bass are being taken on the ledges on the main lake and in the mouths of the bays.  The ledge fish are taking deep running crankbaits, Carolina rigged creature baits and large worms, slack lined jigs and spoons.  The ledge bite has been good overall during the past week with a slow day or two thrown in as is usual with ledge fishing.  Largemouth are also being taken on the flats in the creeks and bays early and late in the day as they are feeding on schools of fry.  These fish are being taken on topwater lures and soft jerk baits.  Overall the Largemouth bite has been good this past week.

Smallmouth Bass:  The Smallmouth Bass are being taken early and late in the day on main lake rocky banks and points on topwater lures and crankbaits.  During the day the Smallmouth are being taken on river ledges on Carolina rigged creature baits and slack lined jigs.

Some of the productive lures this week are:  Lucky Craft Sammy in ghost lemon shad and Blue Aurora, Rebel Pop R in shad patterns, Rapala DT series deep divers in parrot, Norman deep divers in rootbeer and tropical shad, Hook Some Bass brush hounds in watermelon/purple and watermelon/red, Baby Huey worms in motor oil, Zoom monster worms in plum, D&L jigs in cumberland craw and Last Cast finesse jigs in green pumpkin and peanut butter jelly with matching baby paca craw trailers.

I hope everyone had a safe and fun Memorial Day weekend.  I also hope you took some time to pause and reflect on the men and women that have sacrificed and still do so daily to preserve our freedom.  As a 26 year veteran I can tell you it always touches me deep to see those flags flying in honor of my brothers and sisters that made the ultimate sacrifice.

If you are in need of a bass guide for some fun bass fishing, tournament preparation, lake familiarization or technique instruction don't hesitate to give me a call or drop me an email.  Now is a great time to take a guide trip to learn how to find and fish the ledges.  I am also offering split day trips during the months of July and August (4 hours morning and 4 hours evening) for those that do not want to be out in the heat of the day.  Contact me for details and rates for the split trips.  You should be making your reservations now for the fall fishing, don't wait too long or you may not be able to get the date(s) you want.
