Bass Fishing Report; Kentucky and Barkley Lakes; 5/24/2007
Bass Buster Guide Service

Kentucky Lake :
Water Level at Ky Dam - 358.47
Surface Temperature - 76

Lake Barkley :
Water Level at Barkley Dam - 358.60
Surface Temperature - 77

Both lakes are one half foot below summer pool and the 3 day forecast is for the same or near same levels.  The weather forecast for the weekend is for high's in the 80's and low's in the mid 60's with a slight chance of isolated thunderstorms each day.  With this type weather one can expect heavy boat traffic on the water this weekend so be careful while boating and drive defensively.  Hardly a holiday weekend on the lakes goes by without some boating accidents, please be courteous and practice common sense out there on the water so everyone can have a good time and have a safe weekend.

Largemouth Bass:  The Largemouth Bass are on early summer patterns with fish being taken on the ledges on the main lake and around the mouths of the bays.  These fish are being taken on Carolina rigged creature baits and large worms, large spinnerbaits,  jigs and deep running crankbaits.  There are still a number of post spawn fish being taken along the creek channel banks in the creeks and bays as they are working their way out to the deeper summer ledges.  These post spawn fish are being taken on Carolina rigged creature baits and worms, crankbaits, spinnerbaits, tube jigs, jigs and shaky head worms on creek channel banks and secondary points especially near wood cover.  Largemouth are also being taken early and late in the day on the flats in the creeks and bays as well as on secondary points on topwater lures as they are feeding on schools of shad fry.

Smallmouth Bass:  The Smallmouth Bass are being taken on main lake primary and secondary points early and late in the day on topwater lures, crankbaits, Carolina rigged creature baits and jigs.  During the day the Smallmouth are being taken on river ledges on Carolina rigged creature baits and tubes and jigs.

Some of the productive lures reported this week are:  Lucky Craft Sammy in ghost lemon shad, Rebel Pop R in shad patterns, Yozuri splash-it in ghost, Rapala crankbaits in parrot, Norman crankbaits in rootbeer and tropical shad, Hook Some Bass spinnerbaits in blue glimmer, Zoom monster worms in plum and motor oil, Baby Huey worms in motor oil, Berkley shaky head worms in green pumpkin, Hook Some Bass tubes in chameleon craw, Hook Some Bass brush hounds in watermelon, watermelon/purple and watermelon/red and Last Cast jigs in green pumpkin and peanut butter and jelly.

With summer here it is now a great time to take a guided trip to learn how to find and fish the ledges for bass.  I have a trip especially designed for this purpose as well as a trip that is designed to teach you how to eliminate water and find the higher percentage spots to catch bass anytime during the year.  Call me for details and I will explain these trips to you.  A lot of folks have taken these trips over the past years and the feedback has always been very good.  I am also offering split day trips during the months of July and August for those of you that do not want to be out in the heat of the mid day.  These trips are four hours in the morning and four hours in the evening.  Call me for particulars and pricing.

Now is the time to make your fall reservations.  Don't wait too long to make these or you won't get the date(s) you want.

I have the following dates available in May, June and July:

May:  Sorry I am booked up

June:  Sorry I am booked up

July:  Available:  2, 3, 5, 8, 10, 11, 12, 14, 15, 16, 19, 20, 22, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31

I would like to thank the great folks at Jet-A-Marina for their assistance in procuring and installing my new Evinrude Etec HO engine.  As always the folks at Jet-A-Marine are second to none when it comes to customer service.  I highly recommend that you visit these folks if you are in the market for a new or used boat, boating accessories or need your boat serviced.

I am happy to announce that I am now sponsored by the Evinrude division of Bombardier.  After having put a few hours on my new Evinrude Etec HO engine I can honestly say that I now understand why these engines have made such a hit in the marine outboard engine marketplace.  This is not only the most powerful engine I have ever driven, but also the quietest.  The fact that the engine has no scheduled maintenance for the first 3 years speaks for itself in reliability and endurance.
