Bass
Fishing Report; Kentucky and Barkley Lakes; 5/10/2007
Both
lakes are about 1/2 foot over summer pool. This has been a week of
light winds and warm temperatures with scattered afternoon
thunderstorms. The Largemouth Bass spawn patterns are still
producing fish but mostly buck bass now guarding the nests although I
some occasional keepers are still coming from the brush and flowers in
the 3lb range. Most of the larger females have moved out on post
spawn patterns now. There is a pretty good early topwater bite on
most mornings with cloud cover with a mixture of short fish and some
keepers. I have seen a number of schooling fish this past week in
shallow water early in the day, some of these schools are short fish and
some are schools of keepers in the 2.5 to 3lb range. These schools
of course cannot be predicted but when you get into one you are in for
some quick action on topwater lures. I have been concentrating on
ledges in the creeks and bays the past couple of days with some
fair results on the post spawn Largemouth. Largemouth
Bass: Some fish are still being taken near the brush and flowers
on topwater lures, spinnerbaits, floating worms, sinking worms and Smallmouth
Bass: The Smallmouth Bass are being taken early and late in the
day on main lake primary and secondary rocky points as well as on rocky
secondary points near the mouths of the bays. These fish are
taking some topwater lures, jigs and tube jigs. Some
of the productive lures reported this week are: Lucky Craft Sammy
in ghost lemon shad, Lucky Craft and Yozuri popping baits in the same
color pattern as the Sammy, Rebel Pop R's in shad patterns, Hook Some
Bass spinnerbaits in blue glimmer, Zoom Trick worms in watermelon/red
and watermelon/purple, Hook Some Bass baby brush hounds in
watermelon/red, green pumpkin, and watermelon/purple, Last Cast jigs in
green pumpkin and Missouri craw and Jewel football head jigs in green
pumpkin. If
you are in need of a guide for some fun bass fishing, tournament
preparation, lake familiarization or technique instruction don't
hesitate to give me a call or drop me an email. Now would be a
good time to book that trip to learn how to fish the ledges this summer.
I will be offering split day trips (4 hours morning and 4 hours evening)
during the months of July and August in addition to my normal day trips.
These trips are designed to keep you out of the heat of the day and take
advantage of the early and late day bite. You can get more
information about these split day trips by contacting me by email or
phone. I
have the following dates available in May, June and July: May:
sorry I am booked up June:
June 29th July: I
have plenty of dates still available in July, contact me for
availability. Captain.
