Bass Fishing Report; Kentucky and Barkley Lakes; Mar. 1, 2007
Bass Buster Guide Service

Kentucky Lake :
Water Level at Ky Dam - 355.88
Surface Temperature - 44

Lake Barkley :
Water Level at Barkley Dam - 355.95
Surface Temperature - 44

Both lakes are almost two feet over winter pool.  Kentucky Lake is clear to slightly stained.  Barkley is stained.  We are on the verge of the early spring bite here on the lakes with water temperatures rising daily over the past few days.  High warm winds and thunderstorms are in the lakes area today which should raise the water temperatures a little more over the next day or so.  Some of the storms are dropping some locally heavy rains so we may see more water color, especially on Barkley after the rains move on.

Largemouth Bass:  Although I have not yet received a large number of reports, the reports that I have received this week indicate that the Largemouth are being taken on main lake points by fishing with finesse jigs and shakey heads with a few being taken with suspending jerkbaits.  This bite should get a lot better when the water warms up a few more degrees over the next week or 10 days.

Smallmouth Bass:  As with the Largemouth reports, the Smallmouth reports have been few this week also.  I did get a report of a few Smallmouth being taken on main lake points with suspending jerkbaits but the bite was reported to be slow.  Look for this bite to also improve very soon with rising water temperatures.

I returned home Monday from my travels over the past month doing bass fishing seminars.  I would like to thank the folks that came by to see me at the Lexington Ky , Worcester , Ma and Indianapolis outdoor shows. I would like to especially thank the folks that came by to let me know they appreciate my weekly fishing reports, it is nice to know that the time I spend writing these reports is appreciated.  I am glad to be home and getting started on this new season.  I will be writing my weekly reports every Thursday again starting with this report through out the season.
