Bass Fishing Report; Kentucky and Barkley Lakes; 12/7/2007
Bass Buster Guide Service

Kentucky Lake :
Water Level at Ky Dam:  354.90  Surface Temperature: 49

Lake Barkley :
Water Level at Barkley Dam:  355.10  Surface Temperature: 49

Both lakes are one foot above winter pool.  Both lakes were dropped one foot very quickly earlier this week and we have had a mixed bag of weather ranging from nice weather earlier in the week to cold and windy weather over the past few days.  As one would expect the fishing has been a mixed bag this week also.  Earlier in the week the bass fishing was good on secondary and primary points with the current being generated by the drawdown.  The quick drawdown however slowed the Crappie fishing according to most reports especially in shallower waters.  We have a warm front moving from the southeast to the northwest over the weekend and into early next week.  This will warm the daytime temperatures back up into the 50's but along with this warm front we are expected to get anywhere from 1-3 inches of rain.  Lake levels have stabilized over the past couple of days so the fishing should pick up with the warm front over the area at least until the front moves back from the northwest early next week as a cold front.  Be careful venturing out on the lake this weekend and monitor the weather forecast for the possibility of storms this weekend with the warm front in the area.  Although there are still some baitfish shallow, most of the big schools are moving toward deeper water haunts as the water temperatures are dropping.

Largemouth Bass:  Largemouth are being taken on the primary main lake points and the secondary points near the mouths of the creeks and bays as well as the main lake.  These fish are feeding on schools of baitfish as they are transitioning to deeper water.  Crankbaits, spinnerbaits, suspending jerkbaits, jigs and shaky head worms have been the best producers.

Smallmouth Bass:  Smallmouth Bass are being taken on the primary and secondary points on the main lake.  Crankbaits, suspending jerkbaits and jigs are producing some good fish.

Some of the productive lures this week have been:  Lucky Craft pointers in chartreuse shad, table rock shad and aurora black, Bandit crankbaits in rootbeer/chartreuse and crawdad/chartreuse, Hook Some Bass spinnerbaits in blue glimmer, Zoom trick worms in green pumpkin fished on shaky heads as well as River Bottom shaky head worms in green pumpkin and Last Cast finesse jigs in green pumpkin and Missouri craw.

If you have not made your reservations for next season, especially for the spring, now is the time to do so.  If you wait too late to make your spring reservations you may not be able to get the date(s) you want.  If you are in need of a bass guide for some fun bass fishing, tournament preparation, lake familiarization or technique instruction drop me an email or give me a call.

A gift certificate for a guided bass fishing trip makes a great present for Christmas or other special occasion.  If you purchase a gift certificate before Christmas it is good for one year from date of purchase and are being sold at this year's guide prices.  This will save you money if you buy now because next year my prices will be going up by 25.00.
