Bass Fishing Report; Kentucky and Barkley Lakes; Dec. 7, 2006
Bass Buster Guide Service

Kentucky Lake :
Water level at Ky Dam - 354.21
Surface Temperature - 48

Lake Barkley
Water level at Barkley Dam - 354.30
Surface Temperature - 48

Both lakes are at winter pool.  Winter has definitely arrived in the lakes area.  We woke up to snow flurries this morning and the daytime temperatures did not get above the freezing mark.  The colder weather and wind has kept most anglers off the lakes and so there have been only a few reports.  As per usual, I will not be publishing weekly reports during the winter but will publish reports periodically when I have verifiable information.  Of course my weekly reports will resume each week starting the first week of March. The weather forecast looks pretty good for this weekend and next week with temperatures next week forecasted to be in the high 40's to low 50's so maybe we will have more information for the winter anglers.  Here is the current information I have with some suggestions where information is insufficient to write what I feel is a verifiable report:

Largemouth Bass:  Some Largemouth Bass are still being taken in the creeks and bays feeding on schools of baitfish.  These fish are being taken by slow rolling spinnerbaits under the schools of baitfish and by fishing near wood cover with jigs and shakey head worms.  Many of the Largemouth have moved out to the mouths of the bays and one should be able to catch them on main lake points on suspending jerkbaits, slow rolled crankbaits and jigs.

Smallmouth Bass:  Smallmouth Bass are being taken on main lake points on suspending jerkbaits and jigs.  There have been some reports of Smallmouth being taken in the canal on suspending jerkbaits and slow rolled spinnerbaits.

Some of the productive lures have been:  Lucky Craft pointer in chartreuse shad, Hook Some Bass spinnerbaits in blue glimmer, Berkley shakey head worm in black and Bandit crankbaits in rootbeer/chartreuse.

If you have not yet made your reservations for your spring fishing trips you should do so as soon as possible or you may not be able to get the date(s) you want for lodging and guides.  I have already had to turn down a few folks that wanted certain dates and I am sure the other guides are doing likewise.  Don't delay in making your reservations if at all possible.

If you are in need of a guide for a fun bass fishing trip, tournament preparation, lake familiarization or technique instruction for next season don't hesitate to drop me an email or give me a call.  I am home most every day right now during the day and evening so if you would like to call me to discuss the best times for the different seasonal bass patterns so you can plan your trip, feel free to call.

I have had a number of folks call me to ask where I will be doing bass seminars this winter.  At this time I only have a tentative schedule as follows:

Greater Philadelphia Boat, Sport and Travel Show:  Jan 17-21
Lexington , Ky Boat Show:  Feb 1-4
Eastern Salt Water and Bass Fishing Show, Worcester , Mass.   Feb 8-11
Indianapolis Boat Sport and Travel Show  Feb 16-25

This schedule is tentative and may change...I will publish a firm schedule as soon as it becomes available.

It is not too late to get that gift certificate for a guided bass fishing trip to give that special bass angler on your Christmas list.  Call or email me for details.  This makes a great Christmas gift!!

I would like to thank all the great clients I had this past season and hope to see you all again this coming season.  I would like to thank all the fine folks at Jet-A-Marina for assisting me and my clients this year when we needed repairs or just some great advice, also the folks at The Cabin Bait and Tackle for making sure my clients had all the right lures and tackle they needed to make their bass fishing here on the lakes more productive.
