Bass Fishing Report; Kentucky and Barkley Lakes; 11/29/2007
Bass Buster Guide Service

Kentucky Lake :
Water Level at Ky Dam - 355.80  Surface Temperature - 52

Lake Barkley :
Water Level at Barkley Dam - 356.05  Surface Temperature - 52

Both lakes are two feet over winter pool and on a slow drawdown.  The Largemouth Bass fishing continues to be very good overall.  The TVA has been steadily generating current over the past week, something we have not seen since the drought started last spring.  The current has turned the Smallmouth on and some nice fish have been taken.  There is very little fishing pressure on the lakes right now so if you want to get into some good late fall fishing now is the time to get on the water before winter gets here.  Please remember that the water and outside air temperatures are in the range for hypothermic conditions so take precautions such as having an extra set of dry clothing and a small survival kit in case you get stranded on the water.  Let someone know where you will be fishing and when you expect to be home so they can check on you.

Largemouth Bass:  The Largemouth are being taken on the primary and secondary points as well as the creek channel banks in the creeks and bays.  These fish are being taken on spinnerbaits, crankbaits, suspending jerkbaits and shaky head worms.  Although the shallow topwater bite has dropped off this week as compared to the last couple of weeks, some fish are still being taken on the shallow flats on topwater as well as lipless crankbaits and spinnerbaits.

Smallmouth Bass:  The Smallmouth are being taken on main lake points and the secondary points in the front halves of the bays.  These fish are being taken on crankbaits, spinnerbaits, suspending jerkbaits and finesse jigs.  The Smallmouth bite this week has been good.

Some of the productive lures this week were:  Lucky Craft sammy and gunfish in ghost pearl lemon, Strike King crankbaits in sexy shad, Bandit crankbaits in rootbeer and rootbeer/chartreuse, Lucky Craft 78 pointers in chartreuse shad, table rock shad and black aurora, Hook Some Bass spinnerbaits in blue glimmer, River Bottom shaky head worms in green pumpkin, Zoom trick worm in green pumpkin (fished on shaky head) and Last Cast finesse jigs in green pumpkin and missouri craw.

Normally I put my boat away around the first of December every year and rest up some before I start traveling around the country to do fishing seminars in January and February.  This year I am going to continue to accept guide trips at least for the month of December.  I have openings and short notice trips are a definite possibility right now if you have a mind to try some late fall bass fishing.

You should be making your plans and reservations for next season, especially for the coming spring bite.  If you wait too late you may not be able to get the date(s) you want.  If you are in need of a bass guide for some fun bass fishing, tournament preparation, lake familiarization or technique instruction don't hesitate to give me a call or drop me a line.

A gift certificate for a guided bass fishing trip on Ky/Barkley makes a great Christmas or special occasion gift for your favorite bass angler.  Our gift certificates are good for one year from date of purchase and if you buy one before Christmas, you can purchase it at this year's price which will save you money because my rates will be going up after January 1st.

Last month I asked you for your prayers for one of our local professional bass anglers, Scotty Young, which has been seriously injured in a boating accident while fishing a tournament here on Ky Lake.  Scotty is now home after having undergone surgery at Vanderbilt Trauma Center but has a long road to recovery.  I would ask you once again to remember Scotty and his family in your prayers.  The good folks at Jet-A-Marina have set up a bank account for Scotty to allow you to send donations to help offset the cost of the mounting medical bills and assist him and his family while he is recovering.  I can think of no other better way here at Christmas for us bass anglers to give something back to the sport than assisting a fellow bass angler in need.  Your donations can be made by mailing them or dropping them off at the following bank:
