Kentucky Lake: Water Level at Ky Dam - 354.85
Surface Temperature - 57
Lake Barkley: Water Level at Barkley Dam - 354.85 Surface Temperature -
57
Both lakes are one foot over winter pool. The fishing has been sporadic
this past week. As with the weather extremes we have been having for the
past month the fishing has either been very good or very tough. The
forecast for the next week looks as though we may just get some stable
weather and this should settle things down a little bit.
Largemouth Bass: Largemouth Bass are being taken on the flats in the
creeks and bays as they are feeding on schools of baitfish. Largemouth
are also being taken on the shallow main lake primary and secondary
points feeding on schools of baitfish. These shallow feeders are taking
topwater lures, crankbaits, spinnerbaits and jerkbaits. Some Largemouth
are also being taken on creek channel banks and secondary points on
crankbaits, suspending jerkbaits and jigs.
Smallmouth Bass: The Smallmouth Bass are being taken on main lake
primary and secondary points on topwater lures, crankbaits and
suspending jerkbaits as they are feeding on schools of baitfish. Some
Smallmouth have reportedly been taken early and late in the day in the
creeks and bays off secondary points and on the flats of topwater lures,
crankbaits and spinnerbaits.
Some of the productive lures reported this week are: Lucky Craft Sammy
in ghost pearl lemon and aurora blue, Rapala Flatsided DT crankbaits in
grey pearl shiner, Bandit crankbaits in rootbeer/chartreuse, Lewis
Rattletraps in blue/chrome, S&S lipless crankbaits in threadfin
shad, Hook Some Bass spinnerbaits in blue glimmer, Lucky Craft pointers
in chartreuse shad and American shad and Zoom super flukes in shad
patterns.
Although this has been an up and down fall bite with the rapid weather
changes we have had over the past few weeks we still have plenty of good
fall fishing to go. If you are in need of a guide for some fun bass
fishing, tournament preparation, lake familiarization or technique
instruction don't hesitate to give me a call or drop me an email. I have
a number of dates open this month for booking.
Now is a good time to take a lake familiarization trip to learn more
about how to find and catch bass on these big lakes from spring thru
fall before the new season begins in a few months.
You should be making your reservations for lodging and guides for the
spring fishing next year now. If you wait until next spring you may not
be able to get the dates you want.
A gift certificate for a guided bass fishing trip here on Ky/Barkley
makes a great Christmas or other special day gift for the avid bass
angler. Contact me for more information.
