Bass
Fishing Report; Kentucky and Barkley Lakes; Oct. 7, 2006
Both
lakes are at winter pool. My report is late this week because
I was out of town for a few days and just returned last night. I
did not want to put out a report until I had a chance to review all
the reports sent to me this week and also get a day on the water
today myself. The bite has been slow here this past week due
to a number of reasons. The water was pulled down
very quickly last week (one week from last Thursday) after the heavy
rains we had received the week before raised the lakes above seasonal
levels. This coupled with cold fronts coming thru the area
immediately following the pull down really slowed the fishing. The
bass anglers have had the additional problem of over 900 boats
practicing and fishing tournaments here this week. With all
these things happening at a time when the fish are in a
transitional stage it made for some tough fishing. Having said
that, let me say that earlier in the week the bite was slow for me and
my clients but not impossible...the key was to slow down and stay put in
areas that had been producing fish prior to the bite getting tough. My
last day on the water before leaving town was Monday and we did
manage to put around 15lbs (best 5 fish) in the boat by being
patient. We caught all our fish on two shallow flats that had been
producing prior to the water being pulled down on topwater lures and
spinnerbaits. Hopefully things will settle down this coming week
and the fishing will pick up. Largemouth
Bass: Largemouth Bass are being taken in the creeks and bays where
they are feeding on schools of shad. These fish are being taken on
topwater lures, shallow running crankbaits, spinnerbaits, soft and hard
jerkbaits and Smallmouth

main lake points with Some
of the productive lures reported this week are: Lucky Craft Sammy

Rapala X-raps in white and black/silver, Zoom Super Flukes in white and
shad patterns, Hook Some Bass baby brush hounds in watermelon/purple and
Hook Some Bass jigs in green pumpkin. If
you are in need of a guide for some fun bass fishing, tournament
preparation, lake familiarization or technique instruction don't
hesitate to give me a call or drop me an email. I have the the
following dates open in October and November: October:
12, 29, 30 November:
I have plenty of open dates in November....November can be some of the
best fall fishing and the lakes are normally less crowded than other
times of the season. Dave
