Bass Fishing Report; Kentucky and Barkley Lakes; Oct. 12, 2006
Bass Buster Guide Service

Kentucky Lake :
Water Level at Ky Dam - 354.37
Surface Temperature - 69

Lake Barkley :
Water Level at Barkley Dam - 354.40
Surface Temperature - 68

Both lakes are at winter pool.  Fishing has remained slow this week especially on Kentucky Lake .  I was on Barkley for a couple of days this week and the bite was better there.  The best bass pattern for us was on shallow wood with crankbaits and spinnerbaits.  Another nasty cold front came thru the lakes area yesterday and it was cold today and tomorrow morning is forecasted to be around the low 30's.  A slight warming trend appears to be in the making for the weekend though.  The water temperatures are dropping and this will only help the shallow water bite as more fish move into the shallows to feed up for winter.

Largemouth Bass:  The Largemouth Bass are being taken in the creeks and bays on secondary points and on the flats near wood cover as the fish are feeding on schools of baitfish. These fish are being taken on topwater lures, spinnerbaits and crankbaits.  Some Largemouth are still being taken on the humps and ledges near the mouths of the bays on Carolina rigged creature baits and jigs.

Smallmouth Bass:  The Smallmouth Bass are being taken on main lake primary and secondary points on crankbaits, Carolina rigged creature baits and jigs.  Some Smallmouth are being taken in shallow water early and late in the day on topwater lures and crankbaits near wood cover.

Some of the productive lures this week have been:  Lucky Craft Sammy in ghost pearl lemon, Lucky Craft G-splash in ghost pearl lemon, Rico poppers in shad patterns, Bandit crankbaits in black/chartruese, rootbeer/chartruese, speckled back and white, Rattletraps in bleeding shad and blue/chrome, S&S lipless crankbaits in threadfin shad, Hook Some Bass spinnerbaits in blue glimmer and Hook Some Bass football head jigs in green pumpkin.

If you are in need of a guide for some fun bass fishing, tournament preparation, lake familiarization or technique instruction don't hesitate to give me a call or drop me an email.  There is no doubt the bass are moving shallow.  Late October and November can offer some of the best bass fishing of the season.  I have the following dates open in October and November:

October:  30th

November:  I have numerous openings for November...just contact me for your desired date(s).
