April 25, 2007

Air Temp: Low 65/High 78

Water Temp: 65 (and rising)

Water Elevation: 359 (Summer Pool)

If catching “shallow bass” is your “bag”, now is the time to come to Kentucky Lake ! Today there was a strong move of bass into the shallows intent on spawning, and they seemed like they’d hit almost anything thrown at them. We had good action all day, catching somewhere between 20 and 100 bass (enough I didn’t keep count).

Most of the fish were 2 to 2.5 Lbs, but we had one 4 pounder. We caught mostly Largemouth, about 6 Smallmouth, 2 Crappie, 2 Pickerel, and had many Bluegill bites. A beautiful weather day and fun fishing!

I’ve caught bass in 20 ft of water and 1 ft of water, but the best action for us today came 3’ to 5’ deep in the back 1/3 of bays. Soft plastics fished Texas , Carolina , on a jig, and weightless caught most of our fish today, but we also caught fish on a small crank bait, a spinner bait, a rattletrap, and probably could have caught them on top water. The biggest fish had a “roof over her head” if you “catch” my drift.

See you on the water.
