Bass Fishing Report; Kentucky and Barkley Lakes; Aug 24, 2006
Bass Buster Guide Service

Kentucky Lake :
Water Level at Ky Dam - 356.41
Surface Temperature - 85

Lake Barkley :
Water Level at Barkley Dam - 356.50
Surface Temperature - 85

Both lakes are approximately 2.5 ft below summer pool.  The weather has been cooler this week but a warming trend began today and is forecasted to last through the weekend.  Scattered thunderstorms are in the forecast for Sunday and early next week.  The bass fishing slowed down somewhat with the cold front that came through the area early in the week but has been improving some each day as the week goes by.  Some good bags of fish were taken last weekend as the front was approaching and the weather patterns appear to be set up for the same this weekend.

Largemouth Bass:  The Largemouth are being primarily taken on the ledges on the main lake and near the mouths of the deeper bays.  These fish are being taken on Carolina rigged large worms, lizards and creature baits, Texas rigged large worms and jigs.  Some Largemouth are being taken around vegatation early in the morning and late in the day on topwater lures, spinnerbaits, soft jerkbaits and dead stick worms.

Smallmouth Bass:  The Smallmouth are being taken on deep river ledges during the day on Carolina rigged creature baits as well as jigs.  Some Smallmouth are being taken early and late in the day near vegatation on the same lures as the early and late Largemouth.  Smallmouth are being taken at night on Ky Lake by fishing the main lake points with dark spinnerbaits, tube jigs and jigs.

Some of the productive lures reported this week are:  Lucky Craft Sammy in Ghost Lemon Pearl and American Shad, Zoom horny toads in white and green pumpkin swirl, Zoom flukes in white and shad patterns, Yamamoto senkos in watermelon/red/green, Hook Some Bass spinnerbaits in blue glimmer, Zoom ol monster worms in plum and red shad, Zoom magnum lizards in green pumpkin, Hoppy spinnerbaits in black/purple (night bite), Hook Some Bass tubes in chameleon craw, Hook Some Bass brush hounds in watermelon/purple and D&L jigs in Cumberland craw.

If you are in need of a guide for some fun bass fishing, tournament preparation, lake familiarization or technique instruction don't hesitate to give me a call or drop me an email.  You should be making your October and November reservations for the fall fishing....don't miss it..it can be some of the best bass fishing of the season.
