Bass Fishing Report; Barren River Lake; Aug 5, 2006

Water Temp 86-88 Degrees
Water Color-Fairly Clear on main lake- Creeks- Slightly stained
Air temp-Day 97--Night 82

As the day started out, it was a typical Saturday with Jet skies, ski boats and pleasure boaters EVERYWHERE.  Too much traffic on the main lake so I decided to go to the back of Peter Creek and fish a small pocket.  With no success there on crankbaits, jigs or plastics, I moved back out to the main lake as nightfall approached.  At 9:45 I put my first fish in the boat.  It was a monster, too bad bass don't have whiskers.  It ended up being a catfish that scaled right at 17. Shortly after, I moved to the island in front of the state dock going toward the dam.  Here I pulled a few short fish and a small slot.  They all came off chunk rock and a black and blue jig.  By this time all the striper fisherman were out in full swing.  With so many striper fishermen trolling, I had to move to the south end of the lake to avoid getting run over.   Starting at the mouth of Walnut Creek along the rip rap throwing a black and blue tube and a crawl, I pilled a few more slots and short fish and this is how my night would continue.

They are clear cutting all the trees along the rip rap around the bridges, so this fall it will make a KILLER frog or topwater place to fish. I missed several NICE fish on a frog throwing up into the laydowns along the rip rap.

Our tournament ended up being won on drops from 15-25 foot on big plastics.  Needless to say, that was not my pattern I had put together earlier in the week..  Second place was won with jigs in 12-15 foot on the main lake, but don't know exactly where, but i would have to say it was rock slides.

Remember getting them in the boat is half the battle.
