ILLINI TEAM TRAIL

Father Son team win ITT on Shelbyville from Jon Boat!
Shelbyville Lake, July 22, 2007, by Barry Featheringill

Lake level – 599.11
Air Temp – 79 degrees
Skies- Mostly Partly cloudy
Water Temp. – 86degrees

The father/son team of Brad & Josh Kirchoff fish from a jon boat with a 25 horse power motor walked away with the Illini Team Trail tournament on Lake Shelbyville today.

They brought to the scales a full five fish limit weighing in at 17.56 pounds. In addition they brought big fish 6.29 pounds to the scale. Their winnings amounted to $2620.00 for first place plus big bass.

Brad said that Josh caught their big fish on a jig and was the only fish they caught on a jig. They caught fish all day long mostly in coves for shallow since the fish were not where they thought the fish should be. The 5 keeper fish were caught 2 on spinnerbait, 1 on crankbait, 2 on Carolina rig and one on a jig. They had started the day looking for fish deep but when that did not pan out they started fishing shallow and then after the boat traffic picked up in the afternoon the went back deep. Brad & Josh are setting in eight place in the overall standings so far this season.

The second place team of Jason Jacobs and Marion Cordes brought almost four pounds less that the winning team. Their five fish tipped the scales at 13.94 pounds. They said that the bite was really more like a blue gill bite than a bass and all their fish were caught in less than four feet of water. They won $2270.00 with the $1000.00 Ranger cup check.

Jacobs and Cordes team are setting in second place overall with only two more events before the Classic September 15th and 16th with the location to be announced in the next two weeks. They had a limit of fish after about two hours into the day these were all fairly small fish. Later in the day picked up a couple better fish one about four pounds and then another about three pounds on main lake areas

The third place team of Roger Shaw and Jack Morse brought 13.33 pounds of fish while one fish shy of a full limit. They are standing in tenth place overall. They cashed check for $715.00 for a bag of four fish that weight 13.33 pounds. Three of their fish were caught on a lizard and one on a worm dragging them Texas style. They are setting in tenth place in the overall standing so far this season.

In fourth place and cashing a check for $450.00 was the team of Brad Peters and Brad Thomas. They had five fish with total weight of 11.17 pounds. This keeps them in the top anglers so far this season being in fourth place overall.

In fifth place the team of Larry Morehead and Jeff Stroud with a bag of three fish weighing a total of 11.14 pounds just 0.03 pounds behind the fourth place finishers. This puts them in sixth place in the overall standings

The sixth and seventh place teams were; sixth place William Smith and Ken Kime with a five fish limit bag weighing 10.49 pounds, the seventh place team of Darrell Juvinall (Standard Coffee corporate sponsor) and Larry Kennedy (Pizza Hut corporate sponsor) brought three fish to the scales weighing 9.99 pounds.

The next tournament on Lake Shelbyville will be August 5th. This will be the 5th of the six events for this season and the site for the ‘Classic’ will be announced from the site picked by the anglers of either Rend Lake , Clinton Lake or Kentucky Lake .
