Jeff Atchison and Duke Jenkel earn top honors!
Rend Lake, July 7, 2007, by Duke Jenkel

(Pictured Left to Right: 3rd Place – Pas/England 2nd Place Cockrum/Wright  1st Place Jenkel/Atchison  Tournament Director Mike Glen is in the middle)

50+ anglers took to the water the morning of July 7th in search of a tournament winning stringer.  Tournament director Mike Glen organized the anglers and began the take-off exactly at 6am.  Most anglers talked of a decent bite on Rend, but thought the weights could vary, it would depend on which team got a big bite.  By the 2 o’clock weigh in time temperatures had reached near 90 degrees.  As the fish began to trickle to the scale it was apparent that the fish had cooperated for several teams.  The early mark to beat was established at 15.40 lbs by anglers Don Cockrum and Larry Wright Sr. that weight held strong until the team of Duke Jenkel and Jeff Atchison weighed their catch.  Atchison and Jenkel’s five fish limit weighed an impressive 18.80 lbs, which included the day’s big bass of 5.10 lbs.  This bag of fish withstood all other contenders to provide them with the win.

The top Three places were:

1. Jeff Atchison – Duke Jenkel   18.80 lbs
2. Don Cockrum – Larry Wright Sr.  15.40 lbs
3. Jeremy Pas – Calen England    13.40 lbs

Big Bass: Duke Jenkel   5.10 lbs

Atchison and Jenkel reported catching their fish on crankbaits and rubber worms on rock and wood in 2-4 feet of water, in the mid-lake region.

Cockrum and Wright fished wood in 1-3 feet of water with a green plastic crawdad on the north end of the lake

Pas and England slow rolled spinner baits and threw jigs on the rocks to catch their limit, all of their fish came in 3-5 feet of water.
