24 teams took to the water starting at 5pm
and fishing to 8:45pm. Rend lake had been producing good bags
leading up to this event with the last Wednesday night event
taking 18+ pounds to take the win. This night however saw low
weights and very few limits coming to the scales. Perhaps it was
the week long temps in the upper 90's or practice pressure
leading up to the Elks Tournament to be held Saturday. Whatever
the reason the fish just didn't want to cooperate.
The
first place team of Steven Brayfield and
Todd Twitty both from Mulkeytown, IL. brought a five fish limit
to the scales weighing a modest 10.36lbs. On this night it would
be more than enough to take the win. The team reported fishing
the Rend Lake Marina area using plastic worms. They found their
fish positioned on riprap in approximately 5 feet of water.
The second place team of Bill Wooden and
Kevin Tilton both of Mt. Vernon IL went deep to get their bites.
The team reported fishing black and blue jigs in water depths of
10 to 15 feet to catch their fish. They had a total weight of
8.62lbs to secure the position. They also had big bass of the
evening weighing 4.77lbs.
Third
place goes to the father and son team of
Brandon and Wyatt Schrader from Mt. Vernon IL. Brandon and and his
son Wyatt fished worms around docks in the marina area. "Fish
would hit the bait just before it hit bottom on the initial
fall" reported Brandon. They weighed in 6.44lbs to take the 3rd
places money. Take a child fishing!!
