Aaron Wehmeyer and Jason Thomas TAKE THE WIN!
Rend Lake, September 16, 2006, by Aaron Wehmeyer

44 Boats
Air Temp:  90 Degrees
Winds:  W 10-15 mph
Water Temp:  80 Degrees

Clear skies and pleasant conditions were awaiting the 44 teams this weekend on Rend Lake. The winds did pick up throughout the day but was welcome due to the high air temperature.  It made for good conditions all around for the competitors.  The bite was a bit tough compared to the previous tournaments with the big bite hard to come by.  However, there were several limits and a good number of fish brought to the weigh-in.

Leading the way in 1st place was the team of Aaron Wehmeyer of Smithton, IL and Jason Thomas of Mt. Vernon, IL.  They caught 7 keepers throughout the day for a 5 fish limit of 13.29 pounds.  Their fish were caught all day with the limit fish being caught at noon.  Flipping and pitching black and blue jigs and tubes were the baits of choice for Aaron and Jason.  They concentrated their fishing on shallow wood and brush on both the north end and south end of the lake.  The fish were caught in less than 2 feet of water.  By virtue of their first place finish in the tournament, they were able to finish the year first in the final points standings.

In 2nd place was the team of James Rost of Dahlgren, IL and Pat Creighton of Wayne City, IL.  They weighed in a 5 fish limit for a total weight of 10.88 pounds.  They caught their fish on flukes.  Fishing weeds and rocks in shallow water was the pattern for their success today.

Finishing in 3rd place was the Mt. Vernon team of Randy Banes and Barry Joy.  They also weighed in a limit for 10.67 pounds.  They only caught 5 keepers for the day and they fell victim to spinnerbaits and worms.  Shallow wood was the focus for this team to come up with their limit.

Big bass for the day went to Robbie Echols of Texaco, IL.  The big bass weighed in at 4.71 pounds.  Robbie caught the bass on a weightless black wave worm in shallow water.
