Lucas and Scott Lavanti TAKE THE WIN!
Rend Lake, April 28, 2006, by Aaron Wehmeyer

55 Boats
Air Temp: 80 Degrees
Water Temp: 70 Degrees
Wind: WNW 10-20 MPH

The first Bass World Sports event of the year on Rend Lake was held on Saturday.  The weather was great despite winds picking up throughout the day.  It made for tough fishing conditions and a rough boat ride in to the weigh-in. Most fish are spawning at Rend but some are already post spawn and are very shallow.  The fishing was very good with a large number of five fish limits and several fish over six pounds weighed.  Shallow brush was a common theme of all the top finishers.

Leading the way in 1st place was Lucas and Scott Lavanti of West Frankfort , IL .  They weighed in a 5 fish limit for 19.43 pounds.  They took home $1,728 for first place and $250 for Ranger Cup.  The team caught their fish on the north end of the lake in shallow brush.  They used spinnerbaits and jigs to catch their fish and culled through 9 fish throughout the day.

In 2nd place was the Zeigler, IL team of Billy and Jerry Walker.  Their limit weighed in at 17.34 pounds.  They also caught their fish around shallow brush with spinnerbaits.

Finishing in 3rd place was Aaron Wehmeyer of Smithton , IL and Jason Thomas of Mt.Vernon, IL.  They weighed in a limit for 16.43 pounds.  They caught their fish on the north end of the lake flipping tubes in shallow brush and culled through 9 keepers for their limit.

Big bass for the day was a 6.69 bass.  It was caught by the team of Jerry Bate of Zeigler , IL and Scott Kirk of Sesser , IL .  They caught it on a tube flipping it into a willow tree on the north end of the lake.
