Three days of a slow drenching
rain and ever changing conditions left many scratching their
heads. The bite on Rend had really slipped from the week leading
up to this event. The day of the event the rains had come to an
end but the clouds remained until the sun peeked through about
1:45 and skies cleared. Tough was a word used by most fishing on
this day but there were those that figured out a way to make them
bite.

1st Place Boater Dan
McDowell
The first place boater Dan McDowell from Mattoon, IL. found
a pattern that seemed to be overlooked and forgotten. Dan started
the day as most did flipping the bushes and soon put a keeper in
the boat. He found the going tough after that, he as many just weren't
getting bit. Dan made a decision to make a move and he went to the
weeds. "I found some wax weeds that had fish in them in Gun
Creek" said McDowell. He then hit every patch of weeds he
could find in Gun Creek throwing a Jim Driscoll white Jig and
caught keepers out of nearly every patch. He ended the day with a
five fish limit weighing 13.10 and took home a check for $4,205.00
Dan is sponsored by: Jim Driscoll Custom Baits.
The
second place boater Greg Hirsch from Saint Jacob, IL. had a slow
start to the day without a bite for the first hour and a half of
the morning. "It was 8am before I had my first fish and then
had a limit by 10am" said Hirsch. He culled through nine
keepers on the day but was unable to get a real quality bite. He
found his fish flipping bushes in 1-3 feet of water. Greg ended
the day with a total weight of 12-11 and took home $2,474.00 for
the place. Sponsors include: Nameoki Village Marine and Skeeter
Boats.

The
third place boater was Wayne Shaw from Urbana, IL. Wayne started
the day sight fishing fishing for a bedding bass and but broke it
off when it hit. He then decided to just go fishing and started
beating the bushes and reeds in the Gun Creek area. It was a good
decision as he went on to boat 4 quality fish weighing 10-05 and
earning him $1,649.00 for the day. Sponsored by: Skeeter Boats and
Yamaha Outboards.
Big
Bass on the boater side went to Mike Barnes from Mackinaw, IL. The
fish weighed in at 5-1 and was taken on a Black Neon Sweet Beaver.
The fish was positioned on a Laydown in the northern section of
the lake.
1st
place on the Co-Angler side went to Ross Davis from Saint Elmo,
IL. Ross flipped bushes all day in the Gun Creek area. He caught
his fish on a Lake Fork Craw and a Jig. The days catch earned him
$2,474.00
