Jay Knies and Ted Scheeter WIN AT patoka!

Jay Knies and Ted Scheeter, both of Jasper, had a slow start fishing Patoka in Hoosier Open’s fifth of six qualifying events yesterday. Through the prime morning hours, the local pair had only boated two small keeper bass. As the day wore on, their bite improved and they caught a double limit with the best six bass weighing over 19 lbs..

With one qualifying tournament remaining on the schedule, Kenny Henderson of Shirley, IN and Donnie Holden of Maxwell, IN maintained their position as point leaders. As teams accumulate points according to their finish in each tournament, one team will be crowned Point Champions of the 2006 season.

Tournament Stats:
72 of 93 (77%) teams caught 168 bass weighing 448.46 lbs. (2.7 lb. average)
Biggest bass - 5.93 lbs.; 2nd biggest bass – 5.76 lbs.
Total cash paid to 15 teams - $10,559.00

1st place – Jay Knies & Ted Scheeter Caught a limit of six bass weighing 19.32 lbs. Their fish were caught casting plastics and jigs to submerged grass 5 – 15 feet of water. They won $3,724.00 for the win!

2nd place – David Leisman of St. Anthony & Mike Payne of Hatfield caught 6 bass weighing 18.53 lbs. They caught their bass casting plastics to various depths of grass and won $1,725.00 for the possition.

3rd place – Matt Bell of Deputy & Don Field of Madison Caught six bass weighing 15.41 lbs. They caught their fish casting plastics to submerged grass and won $1,025.00

Big bass - Luke & Rick Humphrey of Indianapolis (father-son team) The Big bass weighed 5.93 lbs. and was caught casting a plastic worm to wood in 4 feet of water. Won $1,155.00 (caught three bass) $225 + $930 = $1,155.00

Contingency/awards:
First place out of the money – Tie, Larry & Marty Sisk, Rod Keel & David Sanders (a Berkley rod for each team from Willsey Agency)

Ranger Cup – Matt Bell & Don Field ($150)

Solar Bat – David Leisman & Mike Payne (two pair Solar Bat sunglasses)

Ted’s Aqua Marine – ???? not decided ($150 for having purchased boat from Ted’s)

Trophies to 1st place team and plaque for big bass from Sutterfield’s

Second biggest bass award: $50 to Jeremy Knepp & BJ Worland, 5.76 lbs. from Mid-Southern Saving Bank

Next and last tournament – Patoka , August 27th
