The Indiana North Division of Fishers of Men kicked off the
2006 season with our first event of the year on Morse Reservoir.
The Friday evening meeting was hosted by Open Door Free Methodist
Church, where anglers were greeted with a wonderful lasagna
dinner, topped off with some very tasty peanut butter brownies.
Pastor David Nicholson and his staff did a tremendous job in
preparing and hosting this event.
As Saturday morning rolled around, 30 teams prepared to search out
a winning limit of fish. Air temperature hovered in the upper
40’s at launch, and gradually escalated into the mid to upper
60’s by early afternoon. Water temperatures were in the upper
50’s, with a late afternoon peak around 64 degrees. Many anglers
had expressed difficulty in locating and catching fish during the
official practice day, as the largemouth population seem to be
preparing for an early spawn. By tournament weigh in time, only
one 5-fish limit was brought to the scales.
The 1st place team of Jerry Lesley and Rick Randolph are now
on top the leader board going into the next tournament. Jerry and
Rick were also presented with a check for 2nd Big Bass, weighing
in at 4.59 pounds.
The team of Russ Dorsey and Jim Wilson, placing second
overall in the tournament, was awarded with 1st Big Bass honors
for their 5.16 pound beauty.
Overall, only 39 fish were weighed in, with an average of
2.61 pounds, proving that the lake is preparing for an early
spawn.
