Weather: Cloudy turning Sunny
Water Temp 67-72
The
17th Street Bar and Grill held its annual event on May 6th. The
event is always an area favorite with tons of prizes being awarded
at weigh-in and free BBQ and beverages compliments of 17th Street
bar and Grill.
69
boats launch at 6am to weather conditions consisting of clouds and
light fog. The morning hours remained cloudy and didn't break
until about 10:30am and then quickly became sunny. Fishing
conditions were tough as fish were in multiple stages of spawn,
post spawn and even a few pre-spawn fish. Even with the tough
conditions the event always draws a strong field of accomplished
anglers and respectable weights were brought to the scales.
The
first place team of Paul Estel from Chester, IL. and Keith Gale of
Ava, IL. had a slow start to the day but found a good mid day bite
and hooked the largest fish of the day just before weigh-in. The
team was using plastics in water depths ranging from 2 to 6 feet.
They reported they were not looking at their fish but they may
have been on beds. They had a five fish limit with a total weight
of 15.36 lbs and the bag was anchored by the second biggest bass
of they day weighing in at 4.59 lbs. They took home checks
totaling $2,000.00 for the place plus an additional $180.00 for
second big bass.
The
second place team of Ryan Panke and Brian Cole reported a slow
start to the day also. The team moved around quite a bit and developed
a pattern later in the day. They reported catching their fish on
shallow diving crankbaits in water depths of 2-5 feet over and
around beds. They had a total weight of 14.45 lbs and earned
checks totaling $1,150.00 for the place.
The third place team of Ron
Reeder from Murphysboro, IL. and Don Porter of Cape Giardeau, MO.
had a good start to the day reporting boating their first fish
within the first 15 minutes. They had about 8 primary spots they
had found in practice but the east winds killed 3 of them by with
muddy water. They were catching their fish in about 6 to 10 feet
of water using light line and plastics. They had a total weight of
11.14 lbs and earned $900.00 for the place.
Big Bass of the day went to the
team of Scott Struense and Jon Hopt. They caught the big fish off
a bed in 4 to 6 feet of water using tubes. The big fish weighed in
at 4.81 lbs and earned the team $500.00 on the day. The team is
sponsored by Dupo Marine, BassCat Boats and B&R Outlaw Rods.
