1st Place Boater Phillip Puryear

Boater Phillip Puryear from Hanson, Kentucky bested the field of Anglers with a five fish limit weighing 16 pounds and 1 ounce.  "I was fishing drop offs all day" said Puryear  " I tried to stay with an area that I was confident held fish but there wasn't shad moving like there was during practice."  The lack of bait fish caused Puryear to change his plans  "I just started moving around to different drops until I found some shad" said Puryear  "The Best drop I hit was on the main lake and the top was in about five feet of water dropping to twenty feet.  I threw worms, jigs and crankbaits but the only bait I caught keeper fish on was a jig."

2nd Place boater James Turner

James Turner of Nortonville, Kentucky grabbed the second place position with a five fish limit weighing 15 pounds 15 ounces.  Turner was paired with another boater and they fished his spots till about 9:30 with little for their efforts they then switched to Turner's areas.  "The first area we pulled up too I caught my two best fish of the day."  said Turner  "I was popping a Jig on shallow ledges on Barkley Lake.  The ledges were five to six feet on top dropping off to about twenty feet" Turner also mentioned that a couple of fish came off big worms on the drops.

3rd place boater Steve Freeman

Coming in third place was Steve Freeman of Eddyville, Kentucky with a five fish limit weighing 15 pounds 3 ounces.  "I ran to Barkley and fished ledges throwing jig."  said Freeman  "My partner caught most of his fish on a big worm but mine came off a black and blue 1/2 ounce jig"  Steve's Co-Angler came in first place (see below)  "We caught fish pretty much all day. My Co-Angler had ten pounds in the boat be fore I had a fish"  said Freeman  "I was fishing shallow ledges drooping to 15 feet with brush on top"  The finish positioned Freeman 2nd place in the point standings.

1st place non-boater Rick Holt

First Place on the non-boater side was Rick Holt of Camden, Tennessee. He had a three fish limit weighing 10lbs 9 ounces.  As mentioned above Rick caught most of his fish on a big worm but he did report catching a couple on a jig. " Really we caught fish on several baits. We were getting ready to leave an area that had a tremendous amount of fish on it and I threw out a topwater bait out and caught a keeper" Rick reported catching five keeper fish during the day. Rick currently leads the points race on the co-angler side.
