On
November 17th 31 teams of anglers competed in the
inaugural event for the 2007 – 2008 ITT Lake of Egypt Winter
Circuit. The weather
for this tournament was spectacular 39 degrees at take –off
reaching a high of 61 degrees by weigh-in time, with a Southwest
wind of 10-15 mph. Water
temperatures were ranging from 52 degrees in the upper end to 64
on the lower end. Many
anglers reported a stingy bite during the day, but in the end it
was obvious that a few teams had figured out how to catch them.
Leading
the way was the team of Mark Jelly and Danny Clark who weighed a
whopping 19.08 lbs. They
reported catching their fish in 12 feet of water around wood, on a
black and blue jig. Most
of the team’s bites came during the mid-day hours.
In
second place was the duo of Steven Klein and Joe Gray who carried
15.65 lbs of bass to the scale.
Their bite began early and lasted all day, as the team
culled through 10 keeper bass to get their limit.
All of their fish were reportedly caught on Carolina-rigs
in 15 feet of water.
In
third place were Shannon Toigo and Greg Berner who fell just short
of bringing a full limit to the scale.
However, their four bass weighed an impressive 13.78 lbs.
The team caught their fish in the first two hours of the
morning in water less than 5 feet deep on a variety of baits.
Big Bass Harold
Buchmeir/DJ Hilton 5.57 lbs
In
a different approach, tournament director Gene Cailey has set the
competition hours for each tournament in this circuit at 8am –
3pm.
