84 Teams launched
at Pyramid Acres on Lake Egypt for the 6th Annual Coach Kill Tournament.
Proceeds from the event go toward supporting the SIU football program.
This event is quickly becoming one of the areas favorites and with the extraordinary
amount of door prizes and raffles its not hard to figure out why.
Everything about the event is first class and if you haven't fished it
before your missing a good one!
The day started off
cloudy but around 10:00am the skies cleared and post frontal conditions
dictated. The bite had been very strong going into this event and
although it seemed to toughen up just a bit it was still a very
productive day for most with lots of good bags coming to the scales.
Fish were being caught with a multitude of patterns.

The first place team of
Brad White and Tim Owens reported a slow bite all day. They only had
five keeper bites but they were the right ones. They used jigs and
rattle traps over grassy points to catch their fish. The teams bag
tipped the scales at 19.49 lbs. and was anchored by a 5.66 lb Lake Egypt
Special. The teams earned $1,200.00 for fishing the lake on this day.

The second place team
of Shannon Toigo and Joe Burgess used a combination of Jerkbaits early
in the morning and Rattle Traps later on in the day to catch their fish.
The team caught the fish over grass beds in water depths ranging from 3
to 10 feet. They had a total weight of 18.39 lbs that was anchored by
5.07 lb. beauty. For the teams efforts they received checks totaling
$1,000.00. The team is sponsored by: Zeigler Outdoors

The third place team of
Don Norris and Billy Dean culled through 7 keepers on the day. They were
fishing very shallow "probably 2 feet or less" stated Dean.
The fish were located in and around the shallow grass and were fooled by
red rattle traps. The team had a total weight of 18.36 lbs. on the day
and cashed checks totaling $850.00
Big
Bass went to the team of Dave Thompson and George Panick. The fish was
caught by throwing a jerkbait in about 25 feet of water. The fish was
caught around 1:30pm as the team located fish busting on shad in the
main lake area. The Healthy football shaped largemouth weighed in at
6.27 lbs and earned the team $840.00.
This
event was sponsored by: Rend Lake Beverages
( Coors Beer), Dunn’s Sporting Goods, Jackson Hewitt Tax
Services, Lunker Lure and Anglers Choice.
Also, so many people donated to this event I wouldn’t even know
where to start. This event is getting bigger every year and this year
set a new record of 84 boats.
Below
is a complete listing of teams that weighed fish. Keep in mind this was
an open event and no points given thus many elected not to weigh if they
were not challenging for a check.
