The
Harkins 4 Man Team Tournament saw some unfriendly April weather leading
up to the event and during the first day of the tournament. The practice
cutoff was the Tuesday prior to the tournament and teams left the lake
with water temps in the upper fifties. The temps had already dropped
substantially from the week before when water temps were reported in the
mid to upper sixties. When
154 boats launched tournament morning on day 1 the temps were 50-53 degrees
and with rain, wind and air temps not getting out of the fifties they
were only to drop even more by day two when the lake saw launch water
temps of 48-51 degrees. The
lake was rising due to the rains and the water temps were falling
dramatically this left a large portion of the field searching for
answers. For those who figured it out it became one of the largest
weight events the Harkins has ever had! It seemed to be Feast or Famine
at
The first place team of Don Arvai, Danny Clark, Dylan Arvai and Mark Jelley used an arsenal of lures to catch their fish including spinnerbaits, tubes, flukes and other various plastics. Day one they reported catching fish right on the bank but day two had the fish a little harder to find as they moved out slightly. The team had the third highest weight that was ever recorded during the Harkins event and this may be including the early events that allowed 7 fish per boat. If so it was the heaviest weight ever with a five fish limit. The team saw their two day total reach 65.05lbs and took home checks totaling 7,915.00 for the two day effort.
The second place team of Jacob Zeigler, Charlie Zeigler, Zach Zeigler, Chris Maeser, used mostly moving baits to boat the second place weight of 42.39lbs. Baits mentioned were rattle traps, crankbaits and spinnerbaits. The team earned $3,166.00
The third place team of Rob Hicks, Wiley Sizemore, Roger King, Ron King, finished with a weight of 42.35lbs just .04 behind the second place team. They reported fishing shallow around grass using tubes, paca craws and Chatterbaits. The place earned them checks totaling $2,374.50
Big

Saturday. The fish was caught on a ledge and taken on a Jig. This Crab
Orchard pig weighed in at 7.58lbs and earned Roger and third place team
